Funded by MELS, the Collegial Centre for Educational Materials Development (CCDMD) produces professional-quality educational materials for teachers and students throughout the Quebec college system.
The English section of the CCDMD has been developing a wide variety of educational materials since 2005, including manuals, websites, software and DVDs. The CCDMD also supports translation projects to adapt existing print and computer-based materials to the Quebec milieu.
The yearly call for projects is available on the CCDMD website . The deadline for applications is March 5, 2010. For further information, or for assistance in preparing an application, please contact Marleigh Greaney, I.T. Pedagogical Advisor, by email at greaneym@vaniercollege.qc.ca or by phone at extension 7848.
As of last semester, teachers at Vanier College have had access to the Turnitin plagiarism detection / originality reporting service. Turnitin is an online service that processes all the papers your students submit, compares them against continuously updated databases and then churns out an “Originality Report”. This report includes a “similarity index” that indicates the percentage of material in a given paper that matches or is very similar to content from the web, databases, academic journals, or previously submitted papers. The report highlights the parts of a paper that match up with other content and teachers can then immediately access a copy of this content and compare it to the student’s paper and determine for themselves whether the material has been properly cited or whether it has been plagiarized. For more details on the Turnitin service, visit their website at http://turnitin.com.
We will be hosting an information session on Turnitin on Wednesday, February 24th at 12:00 in room E-501.
For further information, or to obtain a Turnitin account, please contact Marleigh Greaney, I.T. Pedagogical Advisor, by email at greaneym@vaniercollege.qc.ca or by phone at extension 7848.

From the preface (p.4 ),
“This report is part of the research project “Learning 2.0 – the Impact of Web 2.0 Innovations on Education and Training in Europe, launched by the Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (IPTS)2 in collaboration with the European Commission Directorate General Education and Culture (DG EAC) at the beginning of 2008. The project aims to gather evidence on the take up of social computing by European Education and Training (E&T) institutions, in order to understand the impact of this phenomenon on innovations in educational practice and its potential for a more inclusive European knowledge society. The project also sets out to identify challenges and bottlenecks so as to devise policy options for European decision makers.
This report presents the results of the in-depth study of 8 initiatives employing social computing tools in innovative ways in predominantly formal learning settings. The case assessment examines impacts and outcomes, factors for failure and success, as well as obstacles and barriers, in order to assess good practice and the impact of Learning 2.0 on innovation.”
