News from Other Colleges

In addition to the classes automatically generated on Lea for each course offered at the College, teachers and staff can also set up other Léa classes for specific purposes. For instance , a Lea class can be set up for all students in a program or an extra-curricular activity, or for all teachers in a department or on a particular committee. This type of Lea class offers all the same functions as the regular ones, with the exception of grade submission. To set up a Lea class for the first time, a teacher or staff member must do the following:

  1. Request a Léa class by emailing Marleigh Greaney. (Please note that Marleigh is on maternity leave until September 30, 2010; while she is on leave, please email Olga Mardas of the Registrar’s Office to request a Lea class) .  The person making the initial request will be given “administrator” rights over this Léa class; this “role” can be re-assigned to someone else at a later date if desired. Having “administrator” rights allows the same individual to create any number of Lea classes in the future without the intervention of Marleigh or Olga.

  3. Log in to Omnivox/Lea. Scroll down to find MY SERVICES and click on CLASSES DEFINED IN LEA.
  4.

  5. Click on ADD A NEW LEA CLASS. Enter a class title, a course number and a section number, allof your own choosing. Click on ADD.
  6.

  7. You will now see your new class listed under CLASSES DEFINED IN LEA. You must now add teachers and/or students to the class. Click on the name of the class (in blue). Select whether you want to ADD A TEACHER or ADD A STUDENT. For teachers, it is easiest to search for ONE OR MANY PERSONS FROM THE COLLEGE. You can do the same for students, or, if you have a list of student numbers, click on BY LIST OF STUDENT NUMBERS and paste in your list of numbers. Always remember to SAVE your changes.
  8.

  9. Once you have added in all teachers and/or students, you are ready to use your new Lea class.
  10.

  11. It is important to know that Léa classes are active for only one semester at a time. A new class must be created each semester (although the old classes can be archived on the system for later read-only access). Documents can be imported from one semester to another, so the class can keep growing over time as more documents are added. However, the list of “teachers” or “students” must be re-entered each semester.
