Profweb Report – Teaching and Learning Using Blogs

Profweb has published a series of reports to help teachers get started with various new technologies. This report, written by Charles-Antoine Bachand, I.T. Rep at Cegep de l’Outaouais, explains exactly what a blog is and how teachers can use blogs in their teaching. This is a very comprehensivce report and should be “must reading” for any teacher interested in exploring this technology.

Blogging on Wordpress.com

Several teachers have expressed an interest in having students participate in a blogging activity as part of course requirements. As of right now, we do not have a blogging server set up at the College. So, this semester one teacher will be experimenting with www.wordpress.com. We have produced a tipsheet to help students get started on the system. If you are considering a similar project, take a look at the tipsheet, Blogging on Wordpress.com. If you would like to have a copy of the original .doc file in order to make changes and distribute it to your students, please let me know. The screenshots are clearer in the .doc file.

Blogs in Plain English

This is a great video that offers a clear and understandable introduction to blogs. Want to see a blog in action? Look no further. This site (ITTL @ Vanier) is made with Wordpress, one of the most popular (and free) blogging softwares out there. I have given it a more “CMS” or news-like function, but it is still just a blog – no programming knowledge necessary! Do you have any questions or comments regarding the video? If so, please use the comment box below. I look forward to reading your thoughts.
