APOP First NetTalk Live: Come learn how to share …knowledge

Web 2.0 as a medium for sharing knowledge
Presented by Enrique Ruiz Velasco Sanchez, PhD
Wednesday, February 17th, 2010
12:00 Noon to 13:30 PM on APOP_online

At our first NetTalk event, Dr. Enrique Velasco will be on site from UNAM University in Mexico with his students (college teachers) to present his experience on using Web 2.0. He will explain collaborative knowledge building, why it is important, and how we can facilitate it by integrating widely available Web 2.0 tools in our classes. Dr. Velasco will give us many real-life examples how he uses these tools like wikis, blogs, Wikimedia, YouTube, Teamviewer and more to enhance learning.

Dr. Velasco, a member of the Mexican Academy of Science, is a graduate of Université de Montréal in Educational Technology. He teaches workshops and seminars to teachers to integrate TIC in the teaching.

Training on how to use the online VIA Platform prior to participating in an event is also available at no charge. Remember all English APOP online events will be available to you this year FREE of charge.

APOP’s online community is pleased to welcome you on board. You will meet new colleagues in your field online from other colleges and from other departments. You will gain access to expertise and experience from your peers, have access to the development of ICT internationally, and learn about new tools for teaching.

APOP would be thrilled to receive your suggestions or questions at itactivites@apop.qc.ca .

Video – “The Networked Student”

This video was prepared by Wendy Drexler and inspired inspired by CCK08, a Connectivism course offered by George Siemens and Stephen Downes during fall 2008. “The Networked Student” looks at the chnaging role of students and teachers in light of emerging technologies. It shows how students network, collaborate, reflect, and understand. It is presented in the form of a convincing scenario with valid examples of the powerful benefits of networked learning. The Networked Student

Blogging on Wordpress.com

Several teachers have expressed an interest in having students participate in a blogging activity as part of course requirements. As of right now, we do not have a blogging server set up at the College. So, this semester one teacher will be experimenting with www.wordpress.com. We have produced a tipsheet to help students get started on the system. If you are considering a similar project, take a look at the tipsheet, Blogging on Wordpress.com. If you would like to have a copy of the original .doc file in order to make changes and distribute it to your students, please let me know. The screenshots are clearer in the .doc file.
