Turnitin Information Session

As of last semester, teachers at Vanier College have had access to the Turnitin plagiarism detection / originality reporting service. Turnitin is an online service that processes all the papers your students submit, compares them against continuously updated databases and then churns out an “Originality Report”. This report includes a “similarity index” that indicates the percentage of material in a given paper that matches or is very similar to content from the web, databases, academic journals, or previously submitted papers. The report highlights the parts of a paper that match up with other content and teachers can then immediately access a copy of this content and compare it to the student’s paper and determine for themselves whether the material has been properly cited or whether it has been plagiarized. For more details on the Turnitin service, visit their website at http://turnitin.com.

We will be hosting an information session on Turnitin on Wednesday, February 24th at 12:00 in room E-501.

For further information, or to obtain a Turnitin account, please contact Marleigh Greaney, I.T. Pedagogical Advisor, by email at greaneym@vaniercollege.qc.ca or by phone at extension 7848.

Information Literacy in the Electronic Age

Information Literacy in the Electronic Age is a new page on the Vanier College Library website. The page is designed to help students understand what information literacy is. It guides students through the research process, including selecting a topic, searching for information, evaluating sources and citing sources.
